New Mexico Defeats CSU Bakersfield 2-0
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--No. 14 New Mexico (12-3, 5-2 MPSF) defeated CSU Bakersfield (7-4-4, 4-3 MPSF) 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Lobos got on the board in the 18th minute when Levi Rossi headed in a Michael Calderon corner kick. Adrian Delgado made it 2-0 when he scored off a scramble in the 73rd minute.
New Mexico held CSUB without a shot in the first half before Gyasi Zardes (R-Jr., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) recorded the first CSUB attempt at 61:45 of the match. The Lobos held a 14-2 advantage in shots.
"Today, we were beaten by the better team," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "We lacked our usual tempo and intensity."
Air Force defeated San Jose State 3-1 Sunday, so CSUB maintains a two-point first place lead in the Pacific Division of the MPSF. The Roadrunners return home Friday night when CSUB hosts Denver at 7 p.m.
