Lamar blanked by South Dakota State
SAN ANTONIO, Texas –The Lamar University women’s soccer team suffered its first shutout loss in 12 games after dropping a 3-0 decision to South Dakota State at the UTSA Classic on Friday.
Lamar (1-2) hadn’t been blanked since a 1-0 loss to McNeese State on Sept. 28, 2012. Nicole Inskeep made four saves for South Dakota State (1-2).
South Dakota State held a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Alyssa Brazil and Darci Miller. Caylee Costello extended the Jackrabbits’ lead to 3-0 just 49 seconds into the second half.
Lamar goalkeeper Bailey Fontenot made six saves, including one on a penalty kick by Diana Potterveld. Fontenot gave way to Zoey Stephenson, who saw her first collegiate action, making one saveand allowing no goals over the final 22:09.
South Dakota State held a 17-4 advantage in shot6s for the game.
Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it faces host UTSA in the final game of the tournament.
