FLYERS TOP CHARLOTTE 3-1 IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME
DAYTON, Ohio - Freshman Kelsey Smigel scored two goals and had an assist to lead the University of Dayton women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Charlotte in UD's final regular season match Sunday at Baujan Field.
The Flyers improve to 16-3 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10. The 49ers dropped to 7-9-4 overall and 4-4-1 in A-10 play.
Smigel scored her 10th and 11th goals of her rookie season in the 10th and 20th minutes of the game. Her second goal proved to be the game winner after Charlotte's Oni Bernard scored in the 35th minute to make it 2-1. Junior Colleen Williams had the assist on both of Smigel's goals.
Williams scored in the 89th minute to give Dayton some cushion. Smigel provided the assist.
Dayton had 20 shots to Charlotte's 10, but the 49ers had nine corner kicks to UD's three.
Dayton hosts the Atlantic 10 Championship at Baujan Field starting Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. With the win, UD claimed the No. 3 seed and will play Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
