EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Travis Hoguet scored in the 71st minute Sunday as SIUE and Marist battled to a 1-1 tie at the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. The Cougars, 3-1-1, were named the winners of the tournament after tieing for the best record as well as having the most goals scored.

Hoguet, a freshman from Fairview Heights, scored his second goal of the season off a cross at 70:47 from fellow freshman Matt Polster. Hoguet pushed it past Marist goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny after Polster served it up from the left side.

"It was a great finish by Travis," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish.

Four players were named to the All-Tournament team. They included offensive Most Valuable Player Jack Twellman, Defensive MVP and goalkeeper Scott Meyer, Nash Maduekwe, and Ryan Wilhelm. Kalish lauded the picks and added how well Meyer played Friday and Sunday.

"Scott Meyer was phenomenal all weekend," Kalish said. "He's at the best form of his career right now. We're lucky to have a goalkeeper of his caliber."

Marist picked up its lone score at 72:04 when Lucas Szabo took a cross from Stephan Brossard.

The two teams then had to wait to finish the game in overtime because of lightning in Evansville. Kalish said the brief layoff didn't seem to bother either team.

"Our guys showed a lot of character today," Kalish said.

SIUE outshot Marist 16-12 overall including the only two shots of the overtime periods from Hoguet and Peter Kelly.

"I thought we made a tactical adjustment that helped us in the final 20 minutes," added Kalish.

SIUE next travels to Chicago for the UIC Tournament next weekend. The Cougars play host UIC Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Wisconsin at noon Sunday.
