Pittsburgh Striker ranks #1 in Penn region
January 19, 2011
In the Pennsylvania region of Players To Watch, Pittsburgh Strikers central midfielder Drew Klingenberg is ranked number one for the 2012 class ahead of Melvin Snoh and Darius Madison.
“I think it’s awesome,” Klingenberg said. “It keeps me motivated to maintain my rank. I think that to be ranked nationally as a recruit out of the thousands of kids graduating in the class of 2012 is just unbelievable.”

Playing a central midfield role, Klingenberg identifies his strong points as his vision of the field and his ability to play 1v1. He tries to play simple; finding the easy ball, but also has a knack of getting out of tight situations.“I think my versatility is a strong asset,” Klingenberg added. “I certainly want to improve on my defense, shooting, and crossing. I think that everyone can still work on defense no matter if you’re top tier.”
Entering his high school senior year, Drew will now be focused on college recruiting, making some visits and staying in top shape to get ready for the next stage of his career.
As for the rest of Pennsylvania’s regional Players To Watch rankings go, future University of Maryland player, Alex Shinsk leads the 2011 Boys. Zachary Pfeffer leads the 2013 Boys and Bryce Cregan sits atop the 2014 Boys.
On the girl’s side, Casey Morrison and Brittany Ratcliffe lead the 2011 and 2012 Girls, respectively. The 2013 Girls’ list sees Emily Morgan ranked at the top and Veronica Latsko heads the 2014 Girls. Bryce Watts wraps up the rankings leading the 2015 Girls.
